Designers Skulls

Eine Menge Leut sind jedes Jahr traurig, weil sie nicht mit in der Jury sitzen und Abstimmen dürfen. Aber hier hat nun jeder die Möglichkeit seine Stimme abzugeben und soziale Engagement zu zeigen. Soziales Engagement wird von den nominierten sicherlich gezeigt, Verantwortung scheint für die nominierten des „Public eye awards“ jedoch ein Fremdwort zu sein. O.K ich trink auch ab und an ein Cola und geh zu McDonalds – verdammt, was soll ich tun?
Während Ihr hier also Eure Stimme erhebt sitzen einige Jurymitglieder noch an der Auswertung – aber bald gibt es das Ergebnis des unglaublichen Wettbewerbes „Schädel des Jahres 2011“!

Vorschlag 8: Und zum Schluß noch ein absolutes Schwergewicht der Schädelgestaltung. Jean-Marc Laroche aus Frankreich ist wohl eine Mischung aus H. R. Giger und Gunter von Hagen. O.k. ich würde mir keines seiner Werke ins Haus holen aber da ist schon eine fazinierend morbide Ästhetik drin, auch wenn die Trophy neben seinem Werk eher bescheiden daher käme. www.jmlaroche.com

Suggestion 8: I guess everything I can say about Jean-Marc Laroche would be non suitable (above i compared him with H. R Giger and Gunter von Hagen – sorry for that). He is a real heavy weight skull profession in whose hands my tiny trophy would look verry sketchy. Take a close look at his great work on www.jmlaroche.com

Vorschlag 7: Alle Produktgestalter möchten sich ja – so scheint es – mit einem Stuhl verewigen (wohl eine Art interne Disziplin), hier finde ich es auf jeden Fall sehr gelungen. Würde natürlich gern mal probe sitzen. Zudem wunderschön das Thema „Schädel“ im Produktdesign interpretiert, ohne dabei Horror- oder Gothikklisches zu bemühen. Vorschlag 6: Der „Dudeman“ Nicholas Sinclair aus Toronto ist Grafitti Künstler und Gestalter, der es schafft mit seinem Gespühr für Farbe und Format auch im kommerzielle Sektor erfolgreich zu sein. Vorschlag 5: Carolyn Curtis (aka Wenchkin) lebt in New Mexico und Ihre Œuvre ist geprägt von Stil der mexikanischen Tradition des „Dia de los Muertos“. Toll wie sie diese farbenfrohe Art auf unterschiedlichste Objekte anwendet. Unten noch ihr selbstverfasstes Statement. Wrenchkin bei facebook.

Suggestion 5: Carolyn Curtis (aka Wenchkin) in her own words: „I myself live in New Mexico which is part of the US but close to mexico. Here we celebrate Day of the Dead and most of my imagery comes from this celebration. Most people paint their face as a skull to literally dance with death for the day or to walk as a loved one they lost. Vorschlag 4. Hierbei handelt es sich um ein Projekt, bei dem Interessenten ein geplantes Projekt unterstützen konnten (Online). Josh Harkers 3D Schädel hatte wohl dermasen viele Unterstützung, dass er mit über 75.000 Dollar seiner Online-Geldgeber, und - wie ich das verstanden habe - auch mit über 1000 Vorabbestellungen in die Produktion gehen konnte. I’m introducing my new sculpture entitled Crania Anatomica Filigre & looking to Kickstarter to help get my work seen & collected by more people. The traditional way of communicating, exhibiting, & selling art is profoundly changing & I intend to embrace it.  The idea is to offer my work for a limited amount of time directly without the extraneous exhibition costs & markups…a sort of pre-release.  I will make as many as are pledged for in the next 45 days…be it one or a million billion.  Assuming all goes spectacularly, I intend to offer all my work this way before it goes to a gallery or exhibition.  This sculpture is simultaneously powerfully delicate, a great conversation piece, & completely bitchin cool.  It is a deviation from my typical tangles series but similar in aesthetic & certainly in process.“ www.joshharker.com or on facebook

Jeder Kulturschaffende, der zudem noch an einer funktionierende Zivilgesellschaft mitarbeitet, hat das Bundesverdienstkreuz verdient, und eventuell auch noch den „Schädel des Jahres 2011“.  „Das Provisorium ist ein ehrenamtlich geführter, gemeinnütziger Verein in Nürtingen, liegt im Herzen der Stadt und veranstaltet Konzerte, Barabende, Ausstellungen und Performances. Suggestion 2: Everery creative artist all around the world has to be highly distinguished, maybe as a GBE or with the „Skull of the year 2011“ trophy. „The „Provisorium Nürtingen“ is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization, in the heart of the city wich hosted concerts, exhibitions and performances. Founded in the summer of 1989 as a temporary (Provisorium = provisional solution) cultural association it became a major adress of culture in the independent scene of Nürtingen. Vorschlag 1, eingereicht von zwei Jurymitgliedern, ist die Ausstellung „Schädel Kult“ in den Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen in Mannheim. „Sein Anblick verursacht ein schauriges Gefühl und doch übt der Schädel auf den Menschen eine faszinierende Anziehungskraft aus. Weltweit erstmalig widmen sich die Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen Mannheim in der Ausstellung „Schädelkult“ einem kultur- und zeitübergreifenden Menschheitsthema. Einzigartige Schädelfunde und Kopfpräparate geben spannende Einblicke in das Phänomen „Schädelkult“ (Pressetext). Persönlich war ich nicht vor Ort, habe mir aber den 388 Seiten starken Katalog angelese, nach dessen Lektüre mein Hirn Schlagseite hat. Infos unter: www.schaedelkult.de.

Suggestion 1: The „Schädel Kult (Skull Cult)“ exhibiton at the Reis-Engelhorn-Museen, Mannheim. „Its view caused an eerie feeling but nevertheless the human skull contains a fascinating attraction. For the first time the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums take a culture-and time-cross-humanity look to at the „skull cult“. So jetzt sind alle Nominierten benachrichtigt (bis auf zwei, die ich nicht erreichen konnte und die somit leider nicht berücksichtigt werden können). Hier werden jetzt nacheinander alle acht Nominierten vorgestellt. Die Reihenfolge entspricht lediglich dem Einreichungsdatum. Zur Info hier nochmals die Nominierungskriterien:

Vorgeschlagen werden können Personen/Institutionen, die
- die Verbindung von von Design, Kunst, Wissenschaft, Technik etc. und Schädel in besonderer Weise gefördert haben.
- den Schädel in humorvoller Weise für Ihre Projekte genutzt haben
- den Schädel als Botschafter des energiegeladenen kreativen Aufbruchs zu neuen Ufern eingesetzt haben
- nette Typen (Personen/Institutionen) sind, und es endlich verdient haben geehrt zu werden.

Suggested can be a person or institution who:
- has forwarded the connection between Art, Design, Science, Technology and the Skull.
- has used the Skull for their projects in a humorous way.
- has used the skull as an ambassador of the energized, creative start to something completely new.
- are nice people, and have finally deserved to be honored
